About Portadown
Portadown, which derives its name from the Gaelic "Port-ne-Dun" (Port of the Fortress), is one of two main towns in the Borough of Craigavon. Its history can be traced back some 4000 years, but its modern history commenced in the 17th century and since then the town has grown rapidly as a manufacturing and trading centre.
Today that market character has developed into commercial retailing, combining the two shopping centres of Meadows and High Street Mall with a wonderful mix of independent outlets, catering for everything from antiques and crafts to high fashion and household goods. In total, the town boasts over 300 retail outlets, including a plethora of coffee shops, bistros and restaurants in virtually every street. From chain store value to designer label, antiques to art, home comforts to shopping comfort, the choice is there within easy access of the town's excellent car parking facilities.
